A Note from the Head of School

Dear Friends of Journeys Lutheran School,

I am so thankful for each of you and the way you continue to walk alongside our school and our students. I wanted to share an update and, most importantly, say thank you. Our capital campaign has started off incredibly strong. In just this first month, we have raised $450,000 toward our $3 million goal. In addition, with the help of matching funds, we have already added $99,000 to our endowment, as we work toward our goal of growing it to $1,000,000. This kind of generosity is humbling, and it is a powerful reminder that Jesus is truly blessing this ministry through all of you.

At the same time, the need is still very strong. As many of you know, the flooding last August pushed our timeline forward for when deferred maintenance and building repairs must happen. What we hoped could wait now needs attention so that we can continue to provide a safe, welcoming, and supportive space where our students can truly thrive. Journeys is not a traditional school, and our programs reflect that. Our students often require more support, more resources, and more intentional care — and we believe with all our hearts that it is worth it. Every improvement to our building and every investment in our programs directly impacts the daily lives of students who need stability, encouragement, and hope.

I encourage you to join us at one of our small events at Journeys to see firsthand what we are building here. And please consider attending our Gala on May 2, where we will celebrate what God has already done and share more about where He is leading us next. Thank you for believing in our mission, for supporting our students, and for being part of the Journeys family. We are so grateful, and we continue to trust that God will provide exactly what is needed, just as He always has.

Student Spotlight: David, 11th Grade

David joined Journeys Lutheran School in 2023 as a freshman, and he’s quickly found his favorite subjects and experiences here. When asked about his favorite class, David says, “Math!” But it’s not just academics that make Journeys special—he loves the new gym, art class, and all the other fun activities our school offers.

David has some thoughtful advice for new students who might be feeling nervous: “Take a break if you need one, or take another student for a break.”

Some of David’s favorite memories include visiting the Martin Luther High School Wrestling Room during his freshman year, where he and his classmates played hide-and-seek and enjoyed other fun activities.

When asked about his plans after graduation, David’s response says it all: “I don’t ever want to leave Journeys—it’s such a great school!”

We’re grateful to have students like David who bring energy, curiosity, and joy to our community every day.
