A Note from the Head of School Dear Friends of Journeys Lutheran School, “Around Here” was the theme of the fall appeal letter you may have received recently. I’ve been thinking a lot about what those words really mean for our students and for the community we have built at Journeys. Around here, students are learning to accept themselves—their abilities, their challenges, and the things that make them uniquely who God created them to be. They know they are loved by the staff and friends who surround them. They are learning that they belong, just as they are. Around here, community shows up in the little things every day. It’s high school students mentoring grade school students. It’s a student reminding a friend what page the class is on. It’s someone recognizing they have hurt another person’s feelings and offering an apology. It’s a student slowing down the swing so someone else can join in. These moments might seem small, but they are beautiful reminders of what it means to care for one another. Around here, our staff takes the time to know all the different parts of each student. They see the challenges, celebrate the strengths, and recognize the gifts each student brings to the table. They understand that every student has something valuable to contribute. Around here, every student has a purpose. Every student has a place to call home. And every student is needed to make Journeys the community it is. We are a body made up of many different parts, and each part matters. And around here, Jesus is part of our everyday life. His name is spoken in our classrooms, His love is shared in the ways we care for one another, and His grace is celebrated throughout our school. As I look around Journeys, I could not be prouder of the school and community we have created together. I see students growing in confidence, friendships taking root, staff members pouring their hearts into their work, and Jesus being proclaimed in all that we do. There is so much to celebrate! Thank you for being part of what happens around here. Whether you serve our students, pray for our school, volunteer your time, or give financially, you help make this community possible. Around here, every student belongs. Around here, every student matters. And around here, Jesus is at the center of it all. Jenny Stollenwerk, Head of School |
